Why The Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two Is Worthy Of Its GPHG 2020 Award
The GPHG 2020 Award for Mechanical Exception went to Bovet this year for its Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two. Today, Watchonista takes a closer look at why this timepiece beat some pretty stiff competition to take the prize.
Bovet has been catching the attention of the world’s watch experts over the last few years, winning the GPHG’s prestigious “Aiguille d’Or” prize in 2018 and reaping two awards this year. The first prize went to the brand’s Amadéo Fleurier 36 Miss Audrey timepiece for the best watch in the Ladies’ category. The second award was bestowed upon this breathtaking Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two in the Mechanical Exception category.
The Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two
The Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two is only the second timepiece by Bovet to be housed in a full sapphire crystal case, a complication in itself with its unique sloped shape that gently directs the dial towards the eyes of its owner.
The sapphire crystal also allows an uninterrupted view of this patented double-face flying tourbillon with its universal time zone, moon phase, and exquisite finishings.
In particular, the jury was seduced by its intriguing dial and domed sub-dial at 12 o’clock that comes in a blue translucent quartz (it is also available in green quartz or a luminescent imperial yellow color).
This clear blue sub-dial indicates the hours and minutes of the local time, while another blue-domed sub-dial at 3 o’clock displays a second time zone, with 24 different time zones to choose from and their representative cities inscribed on the dome in white lettering. This unique construction of this indication also allows for the time in any of the second time zones to be read at a glance.
Raffy Joined The GPHG In Person
During the digital ceremony, Bovet’s Founder and CEO, Pascal Raffy, shared his joy with the audience in person, explaining the thinking behind the collection, “The Brainstorm Chapters are not an exercise to answer any fashion or trend with sapphire cases,” he explained. “We wanted to open ourselves up to the universe with an intuitive and universal time display… Paying respect to travel has always been in the story, the history, and the patrimony of the house of Bovet.”
All The Details
The Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two comes in a 47.80mm sapphire crystal case and is fitted with a blue leather strap and pin buckle. The timepiece is powered by a manual-winding movement that has a five-day power reserve and takes Bovet’s artisans over 60-hours to engrave.
The collection is limited to 10 pieces and comes at a price of CHF 355,000.
